Weybridge to Pyrfordvia Wey canal towpath. |
![]() |
This route description starts at The Quadrant, Weybridge, the junction of Heath Road, Church Street and Bridge Road. The route follows the Wey canal past New Haw lock to Pyrford, then joins route 9 to continue to Wisley. Most of the route is on narrow paths shared with pedestrians, so remember to give way when appropriate. Parts of the route can also get very muddy in wet weather. The rough unlit water-side paths are unsuitable for use in darkness.
Weybridge to New Haw
From the Quadrant, follow Bridge Road past the Queens Head pub, across the River Wey, then runs (as Addlestone Road) alongside the canal parallel with the busy main road. When the road turns away from the canal, turn left using a steep bridge to cross the canal and join the towpath. Follow the towpath past Cox's Mill lock, and another 1.4km to New Haw lock (1.8km, 1.1m), where this route crosses route 9 to Woking.
In wet conditions, the muddiest part of the the towpath can be avoided by continuing along Addlestone Road to the roundabout and turning left down Hamm Moor Lane to the end. Cross the railway using the awkwardly-ramped footbridge, continue around Cox's Mill (now desirable residences), and rejoin the towpath over the footbridge at the tail of the lock.
New Haw to Pyrford & Wisley
Continue along the canal, passing under the M25 motorway and taking a short signposted detour under Parvis Road. At Pyrford lock (3.0km, 1.9m) you will find the Anchor public house, which normally serves food.
Turn left onto the road for 800 metres to join route 3 for Wisley.
