Iain or John MacFarlane, Gentleman, was
born circa 1605 in Scotland, and may well have been killed in a fray with
English Roundheads near Killin in 1653. He was known as "Iain Dhu" (Black John).
Iain was a factor for the Campbells of Glenorchy and lived near Killin at the
west end of Loch Tay in Perthshire. He married his distant cousin Miss (given
name unknown) MacNab of MacNab, daughter of Finlay MacNab of that Ilk, 12th
Baron (by his second wife). He had four sons of whom the eldest was Iain.
