Cycling Books

There has been a healthy increase in the number of books on cycling published in recent years. This is far from being a comprehensive list, but suggests some books that I have found useful or have been recommended to me.

UK Route Guides & Maps

Cycling in Elmbridge. Elmbridge Borough Council, Civic Centre, Esher. Published July 2001. Elmbridge Borough Council have published this fold-out map to show existing and projected "marked" cycle routes in the borough. Copies are available free of charge from council offices, libraries, etc..
The Official Guide to the National Cycle Network. Nick Cotton & John Grimshaw. Sustrans, 2000. The National Cycle Network now comprises more than 5000 miles. Thie guide is written for all users, beginners or experienced, and is well supplied with maps, phorographs and advice on the routes.
Cycling without Traffic: Southeast. Nick Cotton. Dial Press, 1994. A guide to 30 cycle 'trails' (good surface and free of motor traffic) in Southeast England. Also gives general cycling hints. Well illustrated and well-presented.
Ordnance Survey Cycle Tours - Kent, Surrey & Sussex. Nick Cotton. Ordnance Survey, 1993. A guide to 14 routes on secondary roads, and 10 off-road routes (bridleways & rough tracks). Also gives general cycling hints. Well illustrated and well-presented.
Britain Cycleway Companion. Tim Stilwell, Martin Dowling (ed). Stilwell Publishing,1998. A directory of accommodation on 20 long-distance cycleways in the UK.
'Landranger' 1:50,000 map 176 'London SW', Ordnance Survey Invaluable for routefinding in Elmbridge and to the North.
'Landranger' 1:50,000 map 187 'Reigate & Crawley', Ordnance Survey Invaluable for routefinding in Elmbridge and to the South.

Bicycle Maintenance

Richards' Bicycle Repair Manual. Richard Ballantyne & Richard Grant. Dorling Kindersley, 1994. An excellent, well-illustrated guide to do-it-yourself bicycle maintenance and repair.
